Children

Marang House has capacity to accomodate eleven children at the time. The children are all from disadvantaged backgrounds and are currently receiving treatments at various Johannesburg hospitals.

The following children are currently living at Marang House:

Lulamile Lulamile (12) – Insulin Dependent Diabetic
He was being raised by a young uncle before coming to Marang House in the middle of May this year. He comes from a very poor social background with no one to monitor his glucose levels, despite all these setbacks in his life he is doing very well and has settled into life at Marang House. He is a very quite child with a wicked sense of humor. He would like to become a policeman when he finishes school.

Kumbuzile Kumbuzile (9) – Insulin Dependent Diabetic
Kumbuzile is a delightful little girl who only came to Marang House in May this year. Sadly she lost her mother and is being brought up by a very loving grandmother. Despite all this emotional trauma in her life she is a very happy child and is a tiny bundle of energy and a real little clown. Kumbuzile’s dream is to become a pilot.

Thulani Thulani (9) – Insulin Dependent Diabetic
Thulani is one of our new patients and has only been at Marang House since end May. His mother is a street vendor and so was unable to support or supervise him. He is a very quiet boy who prefers his own company and does not integrate well with the other children. Understandably he has a number of emotional problems.

Muzi

Gcinomuzi (9) – Chronic Renal Failure
Muzi as he was fondly known at Marang House, came to the home in 2006 from Swaziland.  After all the years of dialysis and illness his little body was so worn and damaged , that victory of a kidney transplant came too late and he was transferred back to his family in Swaziland on 17th September 2009. He is still having on going treatment at the Mbabane Hospital, and is doing very well

Gcinisile Gcinisile (13) – Insulin Dependent Diabetic
She has been with Marang House for a year and came to the home from Kwazulu Natal. She will sacrifice things to make others happy and is a very giving child. Gcinisile loves to sing and is always singing, she wants to become a doctor so that she can help other children who are seriously ill. We are happy to advise that Gsinisile left Marang House on 18th December 2009 to go and live with her grandmother who will be taking care of her.
Annah Annah (14) – Insulin Dependent Diabetic
She is currently the oldest of the children and has become a role model to many of the children. Annah is a very elegant and fashion conscious young lady who has stayed at Marang House since 2004. She is one of the most active children we have ever had and enjoys acting, singing and dancing. She would like to teach when she grows up. Sadly it was time for Annah to leave Marang House and she has now been transferred to an adolescent home.
Innocent 300107 008 Innocent (13) – Chronic Renal Failure
He is our whiz child and is always obliged to assist us around the home, especially if someone gets a new cell phone, he is the first one who will figure it out and tell you what features the cell phone has. He communicates well with everybody and loves people. He successfully had his kidney transplant on the 12th October 09 and is recovering well.  Innocent’s dream is to become a paramedic so it enables him to help others.
Xolisiwe Xolisiwe (10) – Insulin Dependent Diabetic
Since July 2008 this mischievious child has been living at Marang House.  Xolisiwe enjoys life and has a very open personality and loves to laugh and play with the other children.  She makes everybody’s life a little brighter.  Her dream of becoming a lawyer began when she was seriously ill in hospital, she believes that every seriously ill child in South Africa should have access to free medical care.
Nokuthula Nokuthula (11) – Insulin Dependent Diabetic
Nokuthula came to Marang House at the beginning of this year from Soweto. She is another one of our fashion guru’s and is always immaculately dressed.  She is an extremely bright child and would love to learn french.  Nokuthula has a very pleasant nature, loves everybody and is an absolute pleasure to have around.  She would love to become a theatre doctor.

Kereng

Kereng (13) – Chronic Renal Failure
Kereng is on haemodialysis. He requires three treatments of about five hours each a week. Since he is from Rustenburg, travelling this often to the hospital is impossible for his parents to arrange.  Kereng is a quiet boy and misses home a lot but has adapted to life at Marang House. We are ecstatic to advise that Kereng had his kidney transplant on Sunday 17th January 2010 and the doctors are pleased with his recovery.
